Strops
Leather strops are tools used to strop and hone the edges of blades. They are typically made of a piece of leather that is mounted on a wooden paddle or other backing. The leather can be treated with a stropping compound, such as honing compound or diamond paste, to increase its abrasiveness.
Stropping is a process that helps to align the microscopic teeth on the edge of a blade. This can make the blade sharper and more durable. Stropping is typically done after a blade has been sharpened with a sharpening stone.
There are two main types of leather strops: paddle strops and hanging strops. Paddle strops are mounted on a wooden paddle, while hanging strops are suspended from a hook or other support. Paddle strops are more stable and easier to use, while hanging strops are more portable.
